We spend a couple days getting students used to the structure of the classroom. While there will be some traditional assessments throughout, this course is primarly project based.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) enhance student learning through contextual instruction, leadership and personal development, applied learning and real world application.

Descibe the evolution of the internet.

Explain internet functions such as:

  • The World Wide Web
  • Web Browsers
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  • Domains
  • Students will learn about various web design concepts. We will build several website along the way. This website, __, is a perfect example of the kind of work we will complete. It was built using only concepts and tools that will be taught and available to students.

    We will use Notepad++ to write HTML, CSS, and JS code to build a website.

    Students will learn how to use HTML to build the structure of a webpage.

    Students will learn how to use CSS to add style to the page, such as adding colors, adjusting font, or the location of HTML elements.

    Students will learn basic JavaScript functions to allow for an interactive response from the page. An example of this can be observed with how the navigation bar at the top of the page changes color when selected.

    Research and incorporate features that ensure a quality user experience. Concepts such as:

    • White space
    • Interactivity
    • Hyperlink differentiation
    • Website consistency
    • Responsiveness
    • Accessibility

    Explore and apply color principles to websites

    Explore and apply current best practices for web typography

    Critique websites for professional quality in look and layout based on design principles

    Students will build a webpage for a client. The client may be a club or sport from the school, or perhaps a teacher. This process will involve:

    1. Interviewing the client
    2. Identifying client needs and wants
    3. Designing a prototype to present to the client
    4. Build a fully funtioning website
    5. Present the website to their peers and the client

    We will walk through the necessasry steps to publish a fully functioning website.

    Investigate job prospects in the web design and development industry. Students will leave clas with an electronic portfolio of projects developed during this class.
